We are seeking a Remote Appian Developer to play a pivotal role in designing, configuring, and implementing complex Appian functionalities within mission-critical applications. In this position, you will participate in all phases of the development lifecycle—from requirements gathering and backlog refinement to testing and remediation—while adhering to established best practices. You will also be responsible for data modeling, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Appian’s latest features, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Requirements & Collaboration
- Partner with product owners and business analysts to understand requirements.
- Provide recommendations to ensure user stories meet quality and completeness standards.
- Estimation & Planning
- Estimate effort and complexity for user stories and tasks during sprint planning.
- Appian Development
- Develop and configure Appian capabilities, data records/models, and functionalities.
- Adhere to best practices and established design principles.
- Troubleshooting & Integration
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to Appian applications and integrations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UX/UI and QA engineers, for seamless solutions.
- Testing & Quality Assurance
- Provide testing support by creating test cases and identifying testing needs.
- Knowledge Sharing
- Contribute to internal documentation and training materials.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions to foster continuous learning.
- Continuous Improvement
- Keep current with the latest Appian features, tools, and industry trends.
- Identify opportunities for process optimizations and improvements in development practices.
Competencies
- Appian Expertise
- Strong understanding of Appian architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
- Proficiency in Appian SAIL, process modeling, and integration capabilities.
- Technical Skills
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, and web services (REST/SOAP).
- Familiarity with project management tools (Jira, MS Project, Visio, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
- Methodologies
- Proven application of Waterfall, Agile Scrum, and Kanban methodologies.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Strong communication skills with an ability to work effectively in collaborative environments.
Relationships
- Reports to: Application Modernization Lead
Job Requirements
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required for Public Sector roles.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of directly relevant industry experience.
- Certification: Appian Senior Developer certification (or higher).
- Testing Knowledge: Familiarity with Appian testing methodologies.
Work Environment
- Location: Fully remote position, with a preference for candidates in Dayton, OH or the Washington, D.C. area.
- Travel: Occasional travel for team meetings and training.
- Collaboration: Requires close collaboration with teams across various departments and locations.
