Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Apprentice Cable Puller Technician to support our DoD customer in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This role offers hands-on experience in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting cabling systems under the mentorship of experienced technicians.

  • Assist with Layer 1 Infrastructure Support:

    • Support the installation and maintenance of Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) cabling.
    • Work with fiber optics, copper network drops, and wireless access points throughout the PNS shipyard.
  • Learn Cable Installation Techniques:

    • Receive training on installing various cable types, including CAT5e, CAT6, coaxial cables, and single/multi-mode fiber optic cables according to BICSI standards.
  • Support Problem Analysis and Resolution:

    • Help analyze network issues related to Layer 1 infrastructure.
    • Assist in creating tickets and collaborating with the team to resolve problems.
  • Participate in Cable Maintenance:

    • Aid in terminating, labeling, testing, and documenting backbone and horizontal cable implementations.
    • Learn to install cable pathways like cable trays, EMT, inner ducts, J-hooks, D-rings, and wire molds.
  • Assist with Submarine/Barge Operations:

    • Support the installation, removal, and reinstallation of copper and fiber optic cabling for submarine/barge moves.
  • Help with Network Appliance Installation:

    • Assist in mounting network appliances, cabinets, grounding systems, and wireless access points.
  • Conduct Site Surveys:

    • Participate in site surveys and help prepare final reports for completed installations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong interest in network infrastructure and cabling systems.
    • Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
    • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Other Requirements:

    • Active DoD Secret Clearance
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (if required by the DoD customer).
    • Willingness to undergo necessary safety training.

Certifications (to be obtained within 90 days of onboarding):

  • BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) or Installer 2 (INSTC/F) Certification
  • ARC Flash and Confined Spaces Training
  • OSHA 10 and EM 385 Safety Certification
